New Work

In January 2025, I returned to painting after many years away. For the past year, I’ve captured photographs of scenes that inspire me, gathering moments to bring to life on canvas.
My work highlights scenes from walks with my dog, Theo—places that hold personal significance and have shaped my life.
I’ve become captivated by the way painters interpret light—how it shapes mood, defines form and evokes emotion. This fascination now plays a central role in my own creative practice.

Portraits of the Past

This series is dedicated to the stories of people after they have been laid to rest.
For over 30 years, Mount View Cemetery in Cambridge has been part of my walks. It is a place where I find peace and feel a deep connection — many of my family members are buried there.
Our story doesn’t end when we pass. It lives on in the people we have loved. At Mount View, this becomes evident in the visitors I see, and in the mementoes they leave behind as ways to stay connected with someone they’ve lost.
My paintings are inspired by photographs I’ve taken during my walks. I’m interested in finding a balance between artistic challenges — light, colour, and composition — and capturing the moments of those who have visited and left something behind, continuing the story of their loved ones.
Did I Leave a Painting at a Plot You Visit?
If you come across a painting at the plot of someone you visit, you are welcome to take it home. Please contact me if you’d prefer that I remove it. Email: darcy@darcydavis.com
Will the Paintings Get Damaged?
The paintings have been sealed with a protective coating to help shield them from the sun and rain. However, they may still be affected by the natural elements over time or vandalized. If that happens, it becomes part of the painting’s journey.

These are winter portraits I would have loved to paint — but time slipped away with the season. Perhaps next winter.
